The PEUGEOT XUD11, of the XUD family, is a diesel engine designed and built by PSA – Peugeot and Citroën. It is an Indirect injection (IDI) engine, that uses a version of the Ricardo Consulting Engineers Ricardo Comet V prechamber cylinder head design. The engine comes in 1.8 L (1,769 cc), 1.9 L (1,905 cc), and 2.1-liter displacments. The 2.1 has 12 valves, all displacements were built either naturally aspirated or turbocharged. The XUD was the predecessor to the HDI range of engines. Early HDi Engines were a PSA design, later 16-valve engines were jointly developed with Ford.

This engine represents the top of the range XUD engine. It comes in three versions, the last two of which had only a few technical detail differences. It was a 2.1 liter that has experienced a slight variation in displacement throughout its history. The first version was actually 2138 cc, while the other two were up to 2088 cc ramp. Also, while the first version was made, the other two were supercharged. The characteristics common to the three variants are as follows:

Stroke: 92 mm;

Warhead 3 valves per cylinder;

The timing of an overhead camshaft.

Note the single overhead camshaft particularly 3 valves per cylinder, a very rare case in automotive history, and which will occur in the future with even rarer. Here are the main characteristics of the engines are represented XUD11 and their applications.

The naturally aspirated XUD11 A was bored to 86 mm (3.39 in) for a total displacement of 2.1 L (2,138 cc), while the turbocharged ATE/BTE versions were reduced in bore to 85 mm (3.35 in) for a total of 2.1 L (2,088 cc).

PEUGEOT XUD11 ENGINE IN AMERICA.

Peugeot engine in the spra coupe is the XUD-11 AT. 2.1liter 12 valves turbo diesel 87 hp rated at 3600 rpm. This engine was in the peugeot 405 car, with proper maintenance (change timing belt every 80000 km = 1000 or 1200 hour) it lasted 400.000 or 500.000 km or more in the 405, longer than the life of the cars.

Spra Coupe was looking for a ligth and good diesel engine for the 3000 series and choosed the Peugeot XUD11 from 1994.
